Final Fantasy VII Revelation Just Unleashed the Weapons, and the Finale Looks Huge
Ruby Weapon. Emerald Weapon. Ultima Weapon. The Highwind. A world you can finally fly across. Square Enix's new Gamescom trailer for Final Fantasy VII

Ruby Weapon. Emerald Weapon. Ultima Weapon. The Highwind. A world you can finally fly across. Square Enix's new Gamescom trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation makes one thing clear: the final chapter of the Remake trilogy is going much bigger than Rebirth.

Square Enix has spent more than a decade rebuilding Final Fantasy VII. Remake arrived in 2020, Rebirth followed in 2024, and now Revelation has the difficult job of ending everything.
The latest Gamescom trailer finally gives us a proper idea of how ambitious that ending will be.
The Weapons Are Awake
Watch the official Planet's Crisis trailer:
The trailer brings back some of the most feared creatures from the original game: Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon.

These are not being treated like simple nostalgia bosses either.
Ruby appears in the desert. Ultima takes the fight into the sky. Emerald Weapon brings the battle underwater. Square Enix has also confirmed that some Weapons will return as brutal endgame encounters inspired by their original versions.
For anyone who remembers getting completely destroyed by Ruby or Emerald Weapon in the original game, that should sound familiar.
The exciting part is how these fights seem connected to the actual world around them. Rather than standing inside a normal arena with a massive health bar, the environments themselves appear to matter.
That is exactly how these monsters should feel.
Huge, dangerous, and slightly unfair.
The Highwind Changes the Entire Map

The other huge reveal is the Highwind.
Rebirth already had massive regions, but Revelation is connecting the entire Planet into one larger world. Once players get access to the Highwind, they can fly between continents and parachute directly into areas below.
That may be one of the coolest upgrades in the entire trilogy.
The original Final Fantasy VII completely changed once you unlocked the Highwind. Suddenly, places that once felt impossibly far away were only a short flight apart.
Revelation seems determined to recreate that feeling properly.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi has said players receive access to the Highwind relatively early in the game. From there, large parts of the world become available to explore.
Which means Sephiroth may have to wait.
If the game gives me an airship and an entire planet five hours in, I am absolutely flying in the wrong direction first.
Tifa Is a Black Mage Now. Apparently.
The trailer also shows Revelation's new FITS system, which introduces combat roles inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs.
Cloud can take on a Warrior style role.
Tifa can become a Black Mage.
Yes, Tifa.
The person whose normal combat strategy is basically punching everything until it stops moving now has magic builds.
The outfits are not just cosmetic. They introduce new abilities and combat options, giving players more ways to rebuild their party.
Cid and Vincent are also finally joining the playable roster properly, making Revelation's party the most complete version we have seen in the trilogy.
Watch the Gameplay
Watch the official gameplay introduction:
The gameplay footage gives a better look at the Highwind, the new combat systems and the massive world Square Enix is building around the final chapter.
It also makes something obvious.
Revelation is not simply adding another region to Rebirth.
It is trying to make the entire trilogy feel complete.
There Will Be One Ending
This might be the most important confirmation.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will have one definitive ending.
Player decisions can still affect character moments and side stories, but Square Enix is not building several different finales.
That is probably the right decision.
After Remake introduced the Whispers and Rebirth pushed the story even further away from expectations, fans have spent years debating timelines, alternate realities and what Sephiroth is actually trying to do.
Revelation finally has to answer those questions.
No pressure.
Everyone Gets the Ending Together
For the first time in the trilogy, players will not have to wait depending on their platform.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches in Spring 2027 on:
PlayStation 5
Xbox Series X|S
Nintendo Switch 2
PC
That simultaneous launch matters for a game this story heavy.
Nobody wants to wait six months for a PC release while thumbnails titled “FINAL FANTASY VII ENDING EXPLAINED” appear everywhere on YouTube.
Square Enix is also making it easier for new players to catch up through streamlined progression options in the earlier games.
Fans Are Already Picking the Trailer Apart
The response online has been exactly what you would expect from Final Fantasy VII fans.
The Weapons immediately became the biggest talking point, especially the possibility of extremely difficult Ruby and Emerald encounters returning.
The Highwind also got a lot of attention.
One player reacting to the reveal summed it up nicely:
“Being able to parachute down anywhere on the map is crazy.”
And honestly, yes.
After spending two games slowly travelling through huge regions, being handed an airship and told to go almost anywhere sounds like the perfect way to begin the finale.
