Tempers, Trading and Totems: Everything That Changes in Soulframe Preludes 15
Soulframe’s Preludes 15 overhaul brings real loot drops, trading, tougher fights and a grind that finally feels worth chasing.

Fifteen updates into its free alpha, Soulframe just shipped its biggest gameplay shake-up yet. Preludes 15 rips out the old crafting-first gear loop, makes enemies drop fully built weapons with randomized Tempers, adds player trading, a brand new island, and reworked Totems. We break down what actually changes in your hands, and whether the new grind slaps.
Until now, gearing up in Soulframe felt like doing homework. Kill stuff, harvest mats, queue up a blueprint, wait. Functional, sure, but where's the dopamine? Where's the "wait, what just dropped?" moment that keeps you running one more expedition at 2 a.m.?
Preludes 15: "Gods & Ghosts", live since June 11 on PC, is Digital Extremes' answer. The entire loot and crafting loop has been rebuilt around ground drops, randomized modifiers and refinement, with player trading bolted on top so your duplicate finds finally have somewhere to go. Here's the full breakdown.
Enemies Finally Drop Real Weapons: Meet Craftwork and Tempers
The core change: weapons now drop fully built from enemies, chests and activities all over Midrath. No more funneling every upgrade through a crafting menu. And these aren't flat copies of each other. Every drop rolls its own identity through three key stats:
Craftwork: the weapon's quality grade, which dictates how many Tempers it can potentially carry.
Tempers: randomized modifiers granting augmented abilities.
Origin: where the weapon comes from. A blade pulled from a Dendrit stash and one reclaimed from Ode'n pillagers won't roll from the same Temper pool. Different Origins mean different Tempers to hunt.

The quality-of-life around it is genuinely smart: you can preview a weapon's full tooltip before even picking it up, and break down trash drops into resources on the spot. Higher Craftwork weapons can even yield rarer materials when salvaged. You know this loop. It's the ARPG holy trinity: find it, judge it, keep it or shred it.
Two grinding tips straight from the patch notes: enemies have a greater chance of dropping the weapon they're actually wielding, and weapons earned under the effects of The Cogah roll a better chance at high Craftwork. Build your farm routes accordingly.
Tuvalkane's Forge: Where Good Drops Become Great Weapons

Found a weapon with a god-roll Temper but mid Craftwork? Head to Tuvalkane's new "Refine" tab. Refining raises a weapon's Craftwork and grants Tempers, in exchange for Origin-specific materials and a new resource: Chordstones.
Chordstones are forged with Tuvalkane herself, and the system rewards investment on two fronts:
Raising your Bond with Tuvalkane unlocks greater Chordstones.
Higher-quality Chordstones require Lampyrites, available in three types and rarities, earned from Sieges, The Organ, The Collector, Cogah runs and chests across Midrath.

In short: RNG gives you the raw material, the forge gives you the agency. Pure RNG loot burns players out, pure crafting puts them to sleep. Preludes 15 splits the difference. And DE has confirmed it's exploring Temper re-rolling for a future update, which would close the loop entirely.
One casualty worth noting: Virtue Liths from 14.5 are gone. DE openly admitted that gating build experimentation behind a consumable felt too limiting. Virtue points can now be reallocated freely. When a studio kills its own week-old system because it wasn't fun, that's the alpha working as intended.
Trading Is Live: Your Duplicate Drops Now Have a Purpose
[IMAGE: Fenêtre de Trading entre deux Envoys dans une Enclave]
The other pillar of this patch: player-to-player trading. Head to an Enclave or a World Tree, open your Emote wheel or target another Envoy, and you can swap crafted weapons, armour, talismans, joineries, Runes, Totems and various resources, for a small Scutage fee.
The fine print every gamer needs before planning their dream trades:
Daily trade limit: your level plus one. No infinite market flipping.
Traded weapons inherit your own level for that weapon. Receive a level 30 Vetch while yours is level 5? It becomes a level 5 Vetch. No getting carried by a maxed friend dumping endgame gear on your fresh character. Your power curve stays yours.
Unique items you already own, Arcs and Founders' items are untradeable.
You'll need EnvoyGuard (2FA) active and to accept the trading rules. Thirty seconds of setup, then you're in.
Pair that with Dispatches, the new in-game mail system delivered by the Spirit Guide, and Soulframe suddenly feels a lot less like a solo meditation and a lot more like a shared world. That fire-Temper greatsword your build doesn't want? Someone in your Enclave does.
Pigwen Skerry: A New Island Rises From the Fog

North of Greater Curlail, a sea-shore path now leads to Pigwen Skerry, an island off the coast of Midrath guarded by territorial locals and trespassing Ode alike. The reward for braving it: Cassid weaponry, held by long-brined sailors and salt-rotted chests. New zone, new Origin, new Temper pool. You know what to do.
Totem Rework: Build-Crafting Gets Teeth

Totems were always a bit... there. Preludes 15 gives them an actual job. They're now built around Runes and Smites, triggering effects passively or on cast: healing on Pull Smite, explosions at the Smite's point of impact, bonus Rune damage and more.
The equipment logic changed too. The old Attack, Defence and Utility slots are replaced by the Virtue trifecta: Courage, Spirit and Grace. Each Totem now rolls a random Virtue, gets empowered when slotted into its matching Virtue, and can even roll a grip type that strengthens it on the right weapon. That's real build-crafting: your Totem choice now synergizes with your casting rhythm instead of sitting in a menu.
Heads-up for veterans: all your old Totems were converted into Harmony. Clean slate. The good news: Hotfix 1 temporarily doubled Totem-bearing animal spawns until June 15 at 2 p.m. ET. If you're reading this in time, go farm.
Combat Gets Meaner: Sieges, Mockeries and The Cogah

This patch quietly raises the difficulty floor across the board:
Sieges now spawn dynamic counter-objectives mid-run. The Ode deploy countermeasures, and completing the surprise objective without dying is the new path to an S Rank. No more memorized clear routes. Add the new Siege, Turret Jotar, and increased enemy alertness everywhere.
The Cogah is now a real challenge mode: enemies start at base level 50, scale with party size, drop fewer Life Elixirs and resist Smites more often. Higher risk, but remember, better Craftwork rolls.
Mockeries got scarier. They now scream damaging projectiles at you and corrupt the ground beneath your feet. Watch your footing.
Life Elixirs were reworked: they heal a chunk instantly, then over time, and taking damage interrupts the regen. Healing mid-fight is now a positioning decision, not a free button.

Add a reworked enemy patrol system, the new Ode'n Caelam treasure carriers escorted by soldiers (jump them, take the loot back), and three mystery weapons from Ode'n origins: Veilk, Ilverac and Vrusht-IX, whose histories DE is keeping deliberately vague. Patience, Envoy.
Our Take
Preludes 15 is the patch where Soulframe stops being "Warframe's chill cousin" and starts having its own gameplay identity. The Craftwork and Temper system gives every fight a reason to matter, the forge gives every drop a future, trading gives every duplicate a destination, and the difficulty changes give the whole thing stakes. That's a complete loop, the thing this alpha has been missing since Preludes 1.
The open question is whether DE can keep the loot chase from eating the game's soul. Soulframe's whole pitch is a slower, more contemplative fantasy, and nothing kills contemplation faster than min-maxing Temper rolls in a spreadsheet.
Your turn, Envoys: is the new loot loop the hook Soulframe needed, or the first step toward becoming just another grind machine? And what's the best Temper you've pulled so far? The comments are open.
