Best F2P MMORPG : ArcheAge never died.
ArcheRage is a private MMORPG server offering a vast open world, exciting adventures, character progression, exploration, PvE, PvP and much more.

ArcheRage: The ArcheAge Experience That Lives On After the Shutdown
When ArcheAge officially shut down its servers in Europe and North America on June 27, 2024, many players were left looking for a way to return to the world they had spent years exploring.
For players who miss the game's combination of open-world PvP, naval combat, trading, housing, farming, exploration, mounts, gliders and highly customizable classes, ArcheRage has become one of the private-server alternatives keeping that style of MMORPG alive.
ArcheRage describes itself as a private project maintained by a team of veteran developers. It also differentiates itself from the original game through features such as free Patron, increased rates, custom content and new-player bonuses.
What Is ArcheRage?
ArcheRage is a private-server project based around the ArcheAge MMORPG formula.
Rather than being a completely different MMO, its appeal comes from preserving many of the systems that made ArcheAge unusual compared with more traditional MMORPGs.
You can:
Explore two major continents and the wider world.
Choose from numerous class combinations.
Fight in open-world PvP.
Raise and equip mounts.
Fly using gliders.
Participate in world-boss encounters.
Trade goods between regions.
Build and customize properties.
Sail ships and participate in naval combat.
Join guilds and large-scale battles.
Explore dangerous areas of Auroria.
Take part in server events and custom content.
The current ArcheRage project also continues to receive updates and events; its official site was publishing server updates and events in September 2026.
One of the defining characteristics of ArcheAge—and consequently one of the major attractions of ArcheRage—is its class system.
Instead of selecting a single traditional class such as Warrior, Mage or Rogue and being permanently locked into it, players combine different skill trees to create their own character build.
The original ArcheAge system allowed combinations of skillsets to create a very large number of possible classes.
ArcheRage's own site describes its system as 10 ability trees and 120 classes.
Different ArcheRage Roles
Your combination of skill trees determines your role in combat.
Tank
Tanks focus on surviving incoming damage, controlling enemies and protecting their group.
Examples include builds such as:
Templar
Paladin
Skullknight
Abolisher
Blighter
Doomlord
Defense-based combinations can be mixed with offensive, healing or magical skill trees to create very different tanking styles.
DPS
Damage dealers can specialize in melee, ranged or magical combat.
Skillsets such as:
Battlerage
Archery
Sorcery
Gunnery
Malediction
can be combined to produce dramatically different playstyles.
A melee character might focus on closing the distance and delivering burst damage, while another build could specialize in ranged attacks or magical area damage.
Healer
Healing builds revolve around Vitalism, often combined with skillsets such as Auramancy or Songcraft.
Healers can also be designed around different secondary functions, including support, crowd control or ranged damage.
Support
Support characters can provide buffs, cleansing, crowd control and debuffs.
This flexibility means that two players wearing similar equipment can nevertheless have very different abilities and responsibilities in a group.

Gliders: One of ArcheRage's Most Iconic Features
Few features capture the feeling of ArcheAge quite like the glider.
Instead of simply pressing a button and receiving a conventional flying mount, gliders function more like aerial transportation devices. You launch yourself into the air and then control your descent, speed and direction.
Gliders take into account factors such as height, gravity, flight duration, movement speed and obstacles. Different gliders can also have unique abilities.
Some gliders can provide abilities such as:
Boosting upward.
Increasing aerial speed.
Performing evasive movements.
Dropping explosives.
Performing dive attacks.
Improving maneuverability.
The traditional progression starts with an Experimental Glider, which can be upgraded through several stages. The classic progression includes Improved, Enhanced and Ultimate versions.
This makes gliding useful for much more than sightseeing.
A glider can be used to:
Explore remote locations → escape enemies → cross difficult terrain → reach otherwise inaccessible areas → participate in aerial combat and special encounters.
It is one of the systems that gives the ArcheAge-style world a distinctive vertical dimension.
Mounts: More Than Just Faster Travel
Mounts are another major part of ArcheRage.
Your mount isn't simply a cosmetic vehicle. Mounts have their own health, statistics, experience, levels, equipment and abilities.
Many mounts begin as young animals that need to be raised before becoming usable adult companions.
Depending on the mount, players can use them for:
Fast land transportation.
Escaping PvP encounters.
Carrying passengers.
Transporting trade packs.
Combat.
Exploring dangerous areas.
Some mounts can even carry another player. Horses, elk and snowlions are examples of mounts capable of carrying passengers.
Mount Equipment
Mount progression can become surprisingly deep.
Mounts can use equipment that improves their statistics, and mount equipment can itself be enhanced. This turns your mount into another part of your character's overall progression rather than simply being a cosmetic choice.

World Bosses and Large-Scale PvE
If you prefer group content, ArcheRage also offers the type of large-scale boss encounters that can bring entire groups and guilds together.
World bosses are particularly important because they encourage players to compete for objectives in the open world rather than simply entering an isolated dungeon.
Some famous ArcheAge bosses include:
Kraken
The Kraken is one of the game's iconic ocean-based bosses.
Located in the Arcadian Sea, the encounter represents the combination of PvE and naval gameplay that has always been associated with ArcheAge.
The ocean therefore isn't merely empty space between continents—it can become a battlefield where ships, players and powerful bosses collide.
Anthalon
Anthalon is another major world boss, associated with Sungold Fields in Auroria.
The boss is particularly notable because of its connection to the wider endgame and progression systems.
Black Dragon
The Black Dragon is one of the most powerful world bosses in ArcheRage, requiring a large group of well-prepared players to take it down. Its devastating attacks and valuable rewards make the encounter a major event for players looking for challenging PvE content.

Open-World PvP
PvP is arguably one of the biggest reasons players are attracted to the ArcheAge formula.
Instead of separating the world completely into PvE and PvP zones, ArcheAge-style gameplay creates situations where trade routes, resources, quests, bosses and territory can become reasons for players to fight.
A journey that starts as a simple trading expedition can turn into a PvP encounter.
A trip across the ocean can become a naval battle.
A boss spawn can become a competition between guilds.
And a seemingly peaceful area can suddenly become dangerous when opposing factions arrive.
This uncertainty is an important part of the experience.

Naval Combat and the Open Ocean
The ocean is another area where ArcheRage differs from conventional MMORPGs.
Players can acquire ships and use them to:
Travel between continents.
Transport goods.
Explore the ocean.
Search for enemies.
Participate in naval PvP.
Fight powerful sea creatures and bosses.
The official ArcheRage description specifically highlights the ability to travel across the ocean, conduct trade and engage enemy ships using cannons.
This creates a second layer of gameplay beyond ordinary land combat.
On land, your character build and mount matter.
At sea, your ship, crew, positioning and teamwork become equally important.

Trade and the Player-Driven World
ArcheRage also retains the broader ArcheAge philosophy that not every player needs to spend their time fighting.
You can become involved in the game's economic systems through:
Farming.
Gathering.
Crafting.
Trade packs.
Transportation.
Housing.
Resource collection.
The important part is that these activities can intersect with PvP.
A player transporting valuable goods is potentially creating an objective for other players.
That means the economy and PvP systems can influence one another instead of existing as completely separate activities.

Housing, Farming and Life Skills
For players who don't want constant combat, ArcheRage offers another side of the MMORPG experience.
You can establish property, farm resources and work on crafting and gathering.
This gives the game a broader identity than a traditional dungeon-focused MMORPG.
One day you might spend your time fighting a world boss.
The next day you could be:
farming → crafting → transporting goods → upgrading equipment → sailing → exploring.
That freedom is part of the appeal.

Why ArcheRage Is Interesting for Former ArcheAge Players
For someone who played ArcheAge before the shutdown, the appeal isn't simply nostalgia.
It is the combination of systems that made the game unusual:
Flexible classes + open-world PvP + gliders + mounts + naval combat + trading + housing + crafting + world bosses + exploration.
Each system can affect another.
A mount can help you escape a PvP encounter.
A glider can let you reach an unusual location.
A trade route can attract enemy players.
A world boss can turn into a guild-versus-guild battle.
A ship can become both a transportation tool and a weapon.
And your class determines how you contribute once the fighting begins.
That interconnected design is what gives ArcheRage its distinctive MMORPG identity.
